Pygmies live in the rainforest , for example in Congo. First recognized in the Middle Ages and notable for their short stature.
If you like to learn more about the Pygmies, please check Wikipedia!
I booked an activity to visit a Pygmies tribe in the BINP and a day after my Gorilla Tracking.
The cost for this experience is US Dollar 50! It will last for about 2 hours. You will learn:
What you will learn:
– the songs and dance
– how to make fire
– how to build a trap
– how to hunt animals
– questions and answers
At the end of the activity, it is expected to give a tip no lower than US Dollar 10.
The activity normally is held near your lodge! If you like to visit the housing of the tribe , you need to hike about 4,5 kilometers each way! And the trail you will be using is going to be tough!
The Pygmies used to have their motherland direct inside the rainforest. They shared the forest with the Gorillas. But than the Ugandan government started regulating tourism with Gorilla Tracking around 1994, the Pygmies have been moved to other locations. This was against, what they wanted. They accuse the authorities, that they are homeless now. The government is only interested, what white people want and need.
However, 30 % of the fees for the park permits go directly to the Pygmies. The fee for the activity which tourists book, 60 % go to the Pygmies.
